Acne Scars / Types of Acne Scars / Ice Pick Scars Ice Pick ScarsIce-pick scars are a type of acne scars, and can be considered as the most menacing as they usually occur on the cheek ice pick and they are mostly small, with a somewhat serrated edge and steep sides- and they look like a wound from an thus the name. These scars vary from being shallow or deep and sometimes are hard or soft. Stretching the skin has very little if any affect on these types of scars. The treatment for these scars is a surgical procedure and is known as punch excision which surgically corrects acne scars. This procedure is specifically designed for ice-pick scars. First a biopsy is taken with a punch biopsy tool, which is a round, sharp, like a cookie-cutter device that comes in diameters ranging from 1.5 mm to 3.5 mm. The size of the tool depends on the size of your acne scars which is matched to the scar and includes the boundaries of the scar. This procedure includes a local anesthetic applied when the scar is expurgated with the punch tool. The scar edges are closed down together, and though this procedure will produce a new scar, what it eventually does is that it fades the scars till it is not noticeable. If for some reason it continues to remain noticeable, this procedure now allows other alternative treatments now which were ineffective before. |
