Acne Scars / Acne Scar Treatments / Skin Grafting Skin GraftingAcne scars can be treated by a number of treatments. Skin Drafting is one of them though it is not the most popular among skin care experts. They think that skin drafting is comes with too many complication so it should not be a serious candidate for treatment unless it is the last resort. Skin grafting is a surgical procedure by which is primarily used in the cases of burn or skin that is not healing. In this process the skin of the person known as (skin substitute) is placed over the damaged skin it also provides a temporary wound covering. Skin for grafting is usually obtained from another area of the person’s body, and is called an auto graft; this depends on the state of undamaged skin that is available, and also the health of the patient if he is able to go through this procedure because additional surgery is required. In some cases skin can also be obtained from another person (donor)called Allograft or an animal (usually a pig), called a xenograft. Allografts and xenografts are options but they are not preferable as they provide only temporary covering—in the long run they are rejected by the patient's immune system within seven to 10 days and must be replaced with an autograft. Although skin grafting should not be an option for acne scar but it could be used if the dermatologist deems it beneficial. |
