Acne Scars / Types of Acne Scars Types of Acne ScarsAcne scars are caused as a result of a healing process which comes into affect after the person encounters acne. There are different types of acne and as a result there are many different types of scars that come with acne. 1. Ice Prick ScarsThese scars vary from being shallow or deep and sometimes are hard or soft. They look like wounds from an ice pick and hence are named ice pick scars. Stretching the skin has very little if any affect on these types of scars. 2. Depressed fibrotic scarsDepressed fibrotic scars are tiny mounds or craters formed on the facial area. The sizes of these scars vary and are caused due to a loss of tissue in the face. They are commonly found on the cheeks of the affected individuals. 3. Superficial and deep soft scarsSuperficial and deep soft scars have variable sizes, and their edges are sloped that unite with normal skin 4. Atrophic maculesAtrophic macules not only emerge on the face but also the other parts of the body. On the face they are very small but are a bit larger on the body. They are softer then other acne scars, with a slightly wrinkled base, and may have a bluish or violet color on white skin due to underlying blood vessels 5. Follicular macular atrophyFollicular macular atrophy occurs on the chest or back of a person who is already suffering from acne otherwise. They are small, white, soft lesions, often barely raised above the surface of the skin and look like whiteheads that haven’t fully develop. |
